I recently had the pleasure of joining Summer on A Beautiful World Podcast podcast for a deep dive into the “outrage spiral” we all find ourselves in. It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss the core mission of our project: how to navigate the constant barrage of polarizing media and reclaim our mental space.
If youโve been feeling like the news cycle is designed to keep you on edge, youโre not imagining it. We talked about why the “outrage machine” works the way it does and, more importantly, how we can break free.
Time to “Touch Grass”
One of my favorite parts of the episode was discussing the “selfish” reasons to depolarize. While itโs our civic duty to stay informed, itโs also okay to step back for your own well-being.
I encouraged listeners to shift their focus from national drama to local community. Whether it’s working with neighbors to fix a pothole or just getting to know the person next door outside of a political context, these real-world interactions remind us that the world isn’t nearly as terrible as the “outrage industry” wants us to believe.
As I mentioned on the show, sometimes the best thing you can do for your sanity is to simply “touch grass”โget outside, see the sunshine, and remember that we are more than our news feeds.
Keep fighting the good fight, Warriors. Letโs keep choosing curiosity over outrage!
