How to Turn Down the Outrage Dial and Reclaim Your Community

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Lura Forcum and Lauren Hall on the We Made This Political podcast to talk about my mission with Outrage Overload: helping all of us understand and interrupt the cycles of conflict that are dominating modern life.

I started this journey after seeing the constant anger and division get closer to my own life—friends and family disconnecting in real life, broken long-time friendships, and conflicts over things like Thanksgiving invitations. I was even part of the problem, spending time on Twitter shutting everyone down with my “brilliant insights” and realizing it wasn’t getting any of us anywhere. The COVID pandemic, which surprisingly pulled us apart instead of uniting us, also ramped things up.

My Optimism for the Future

I am most optimistic about the populace. Polling shows a larger segment of people—especially independents—don’t want to be controlled by the left/right status quo. Our solutions will come from ordinary people demanding a different path, not from the politicians who benefit from the division they set up.
